Animal Rescue Algarve (ARA) was founded in 2018, in the municipality of Loulé, with the aim of rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming dogs and cats in need.
Over the past seven years, we've managed to change the lives of more than 2000 animals, all through a well-structured shelter, with rules that allow these animals to live a dignified life.
The shelter, which we believe is the best in Europe, has a team of 12 full-time staff and around 21 live-in volunteers, a very balanced number for the number of animals we look after, which is around 85 dogs and 50 cats.
We provide all the veterinary care, exercise, socialisation, daily freedom in various nature parks, swimming pools, litter boxes and gadgets, as well as daily walks. We are also very active in the community with a wide range of projects aimed at animal welfare.
We hold various events, we have three charity stores run by volunteers (WOOFF Charity Shops in Almancil and Loulé) which are one of the biggest helpers to the shelter, all help is welcome.
